A centuries old dance genre is being celebrated and brought to Kansas City and the surrounding area by Olé, Music & Dance of Spain.
Tamara “La Garbancito” is the founder and Artistic Director. She is also a professional dancer and educator. Tamara “La Garbancito” has brought together a diverse group of talented musicians and dancers who share her vision of bringing the passion and energy of Flamenco and Spanish Dance to all communities.
Her extensive performance resume includes work with American and international opera houses, symhonies, educational programs as a dancer, choreographer and director. Ever since her Barcelona days, Tamara has been committed to the profession of teaching Spanish dance to fulfill her personal goal of encouraging respect for the Spanish culture. She is a member of the Missouri Arts Council traveling artist roster and also teaches for the Kansas City Ballet School.
Dressed in native Spanish costumes, La Garbancito and her troupe use castanets and footwork to demonstrate the colorful and lively dances of Spain. The dancers are accompanied by live Flamenco guitar, violin, voice, and cajon. The group has been performing together since 1994.
Tamara La Garbancito is a graduate of the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance and was an associate professor at the UMKC Conservatory; she also teaches throughout the area.
Olé offers flamenco classes for different level students as well as private flamenco lessons. The performance group is active year around with flamenco performances in many different areas and venues.
